Backlist Bash: Desi Moon

We’re back…today is Day Four of the Backlist Bash and in the hotseat today is romance author DESI MOON to tell us about her book Accidental Intent.

SHR: What makes this particular book your favorite?

DM: It was by far the most challenging story I had written, I love a good challenge. 🙂 I also can identify with Lucy, there are days when I really appreciate a dog’s company to a humans.

SHR: Who published it? When?

DM: Rebel Ink Press took a chance on me and my dysfunctional characters in March of 2012

SHR: Tell us a little about what you went through to get it published.

DM: *Oooph* The editing by far! It needed several edits, my characters were running rampant and I had lost all control over them!

SHR: On writing in general: What’s the hardest part for you? Why?

DM: The story was originally planned to be a romantic comedy, however, seeing as my merry band of misfits had their own agenda… despite all my intentions, the story became a romantic suspense/murder mystery. I ended up taking dictation from the voices in my head and the bad guys remained in the shadows for a very long time. They didn’t reveal themselves until about two-thirds of the way into the story.

SHR: Unrelated: What’s your favorite color?

DM:Peacock Blue

ABOUT ACCIDENTAL INTENT:

GENRE:

Romantic Suspense

BLURB:

When drugs and murder invade sleepy Longmont, Colorado, Lucy Lafferty, resident dog trainer, finds her quiet existence turned inside out with her name added to a
rising body count. And that wouldn’t be good for her four-legged furry family
or her prized designer shoe collection.

During the rising heat of summer, Lucy Lafferty reaches the conclusion that men aren’t worth the effort, especially with an ex-sex partner who pushes to revive a
relationship that never existed. But when she’s thrown together on a murder
investigation with Detective Nicolai Petrovski, the mercury rises to dangerous
levels that have nothing to do with the season. Investigating a backwoods dog
rescue unknowingly puts them both into dangerous territory and Lucy, despite
all her bravado, can’t help falling for the magnetic cop.

EXCERPT:

The Howling Moon Cafe was crowded to capacity. Lucy wound her way through the tables, trying not to bump into anyone, searching for a vacated four-top. Rufus, her faithful bloodhound, had his droopy face planted to the floor, sniffing for tasty droppings.

Lucy spotted an empty table and headed toward it. A man came up behind her and tried to grab the table. She jumped in front of him. “Mine!” She growled, sliding into an empty chair. “My table, go find your own!”

Her phone chirped. Lucy saw the call was from her directionally challenged friend, Janie. Lucy rolled her eyes, so typical! Janie was probably lost in front of the café.

“Yah!” She covered an ear to hear Janie on the other end. “The café is on Kimbark Street.” Heaving a sigh she spoke louder and slower.

“Kimbark!” Lucy shook her head abruptly, her braid fell forward. “No, turn left off of Main.” She hastily threw her plaited hair back where it belonged. “No Main! Aren’t you on Main?” Attempts to repress an exasperated sigh were too great; no wonder she had streaks of grey at her mousy brown temples. “Janie, Route 287 becomes Main.”

Candace and Sheila walked into the restaurant, Lucy waved them over. She was sure judging by the exasperated hand gestures they knew she was talking to Janie.

Situating herself next to Lucy, Candace searched the table for cream and sugar.

“Good, now turn left on third,” Lucy said into the phone.

“You would think after living in Longmont for five years Janie would know her way around,” Sheila said, sliding into the chair across from Lucy.

Candace scanned the menu. “Oh everything looks fabulous and I’m starving.” She pulled on Lucy’s arm. “Where is she now? I want to order.”

Lucy disconnected. “She’ll be here in a few minutes. I think we should sue the state for giving her license back. It was a lot easier when we drove her everywhere.” Lucy muttered.
